Final field unveiled for Kingsmill Championship 2012
The Kingsmill Championship 2012, who is going to be played from September 6-9, at the Williamsburg, Kingsmill Resort, River Course, Virginia, will be featuring a field loaded with some of big names of women’s golf.
Officials of the Kingsmill Championship recently announced that the field for the prestigious tournament has been set, with plenty of new names seeking to prove their mettle.
According to the published field that was released just recently, almost all the top-ranked LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) stars are confirmed to tee off from September 6.
Key contenders include Stacy Lewis of the United States, current world number one Yani Tseng, Paula Creamer, Cristie Kerr who is the two-time winner of the tournament, Brittany Lang, Morgan Pressel, Natalie Gulbis, Michelle Wie, Lexi Thompson, Juli Inkster, Azahara Munoz, Lorie Kane, Anna Nordqvist, Sandra Gal, Meena Lee, Lizette Salas, Na Yeon Choi, Beatriz Recari, Mika Miyazato and Ai Miyazato of Japan.
Experts said that the field is quite fearsome and it is expected that the match will turn into a tough battle in the last two rounds. The first two rounds may see some of the newer players proving their mettle, but the last rounds are hard to predict as contenders usually push hard to bounce back in the final moments.
Kingsmill Championship Director Katherine Thigpen said while speaking to the media that she is glad to see that so many talented players have confirmed their commitment to join the field. Thigpen said that it is important for an event to feature big names in order to boost its image, and Kingsmill Championship is lucky in a sense that almost all the prominent LPGA stars will be showing their skills at Virginia this week.
“We are thrilled to have this type of response from the players and the community surrounding the return of the Kingsmill Championship,” the Tournament Director said. “We expect a tremendous turnout from the fans and cannot wait to showcase the greatest women golfers in the world”.
Moreover, Kingsmill Championship Executive Director Wayne Nooe, also appeared to be confident about the tournament, saying everybody is waiting to see their favourite stars tee off this Thursday.
“We cannot wait to tee it up next week,” Nooe said.
