Final leg of 2012 FIVB World League Prelims starts today – Volleyball News
The preliminary round-robin of the 2012 FIVB World League is set to enter the fourth and final leg on Thursday.
The scintillating final weekend of Intercontinental Round will cover its run from June 28 to July 1. Pool B, which is composed of teams from Poland, Brazil, Canada, and Finland, already completed the preliminary phase on June 17. Poland finished as the top team in Pool B and qualified for the Final Round of the tournament.
Final Round of the 2012 FIVB World League is scheduled to take place in Sofia, Bulgaria from July 4-8. Hence, Bulgaria automatically earned a spot in the crucial round of the tournament on the basis of being the host nation.
Poland and hosts Bulgaria will be joined by another four teams in the Final Round. According to the set formula of the competition, top teams of the pools will go straight into the Final Round. However, the best second-ranked team will also join the Final Round.
Caribbean team from Cuba has a fair chance to make it to the Final Round from Pool A. The final leg of Pool A preliminaries is scheduled to be kicked off on Thursday. Novi Sad, Serbia will play hosts to the final leg matches, while Cuba, Russia, hosts Serbia, and Japan will be on board to vie for the final round berth.
Currently, Cuba holds the top position in Pool A and the team is only one step away from clinching the final round berth. Cuba needs just one victory with either 3-0 or 3-1 ratio to make its way to the Final Round. Japan will take on Russia in the first match at 1500 (local time), whereas the hosts Serbia and Cuba will come into contest in the second fixture at 1800 (local time).
The final leg matches of Pool C and Pool D will begin on Friday. Dallas, USA will serve as a host to Pool C matches. Likewise, Pool D teams will head to Sofia, Bulgaria.
The cracking action of the final leg preliminaries will come to close on July 1 and the grid of six teams will be completed for the Final Round of the 2012 FIVB World League.
