Final pools announced for 2011 Boys' Youth World Championship – Volleyball news
The drawing of lots for the 2011 FIVB Boys’ Youth World Championship was held in Buenos Aires, Argentina on Monday, June 6. This year’s edition of FIVB Boys’ Youth World Championship will be hosted by Argentina and a total of sixteen Under-20 boys’ teams
from all five continents will join the competition. The vibrant and modern cities of Argentina, Almirante Brown and Bahia Blanca, will set up the field of play for the tournament, which will run from August 19 to 28. The random drawing was conducted, in order
to classify teams in the proper groups.
The event in Buenos Aires was attended by senior officials of Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB) and members of Argentinean Volleyball Federation. The most prominent figure at the assembly was Dr. Rafael Lloreda Currea of Colombia, who is a member
of FIVB Board of Administration. He supervised the whole procedure and made sure things were going according to the rules. Dr. Currea was accompanied by some other high profile volleyball administrators as the activity was covered by local and international
media.
As a result of the Drawing of Lots, teams were settled in the following manner:
Pool A - Bulgaria, Argentina, USA, and Egypt Pool B - Russia, China, Greece, and Tunisia Pool C - Cuba, France, Brazil, and Korea Pool D - Puerto Rico, Serbia, Spain, and Iran
In the first spell of the tournament, teams will play in four pools, while the two top-teams of each pool will advance to the next round. The group of eight teams will be divided into two pools named Pool E and Pool F. Subsequently, the top four teams will
vie for the gold, silver and bronze medals.
Pool A and Pool C teams will play their matches at the City Hall Almitante Brown Sport Centre, while the teams in Pool B and Pool D will install their bases at the Osvaldo Casanovas Stadium in Bahia Blanca.
Serbia will enter the competition with the tag of defending champions. The Serbs worked out a match-winning performance against Iran in the final showdown of the 2009 FIVB Boys’ Youth World Championship. Argentinean team was settled down in the third slot.
This time around, Argentina has got the amazing opportunity to host the event itself. This is the first time that Federation International de Volleyball has graced Argentina with the hosting rights.
This is a great chance for Argentina to cash this opportunity and dig out good results. They have fair chances to do well in the competition as they have the capability to overcome Bulgaria, USA and Egypt in the first preliminary round. The real fight will
happen in the second round as Brazil, Russia and Serbia are likely to advance from the opening round.
