Final ranking of women’s Olympic volleyball tournament revealed – Volleyball News
Following the successful completion of women’s Olympic volleyball tournament on Saturday, August 11, the final rankings of the teams got revealed.
The Olympic volleyball event received a total of 12 women’s teams, which contested their skills at the Earls Court in London. The women’s edition completed its run from July 28 to August 11. At the end of the 13th edition of women’s Olympic volleyball
tournament, the participating teams settled down in the following order:
Brazil (Gold medal)
USA (Silver medal)
Japan (Bronze medal)
Korea
China
Dominican Republic
Italy
Russia
Great Britain (hosts)
Turkey
Algeria
Serbia
In the women’s category, Brazil came on top after defeating archrival USA in the final showdown of the tournament. Likewise, Japan breezed past Korea in the third-position match and secured the bronze-ware.
According to the set formula of the competition, the grid of 12 teams was initially divided into two pools: Pool A and Pool B. Russia, Italy, Japan, Dominican Republic, Great Britain, and Algeria were placed in Pool A, while Pool B was composed to teams
from United States, China, Korea, Brazil, Turkey, and Serbia.
The tournament was opened with preliminary round-robin, which helped the top four teams from each pool to advance to the quarterfinals, while remaining two teams got eliminated. In Pool A, Algeria and hosts Great Britain could not perform up to the mark
and failed to qualify for the second stage of the tournament. On the other hand, Serbia and Turkey gave out under the par performance in Pool B Prelims and got disqualified.
In the next run, the quarterfinals were played. Brazil, Japan, South Korea, and USA advanced to the semi-finals and competed for berths in the final match of the Olympic competition. Brazil and USA did a great job and pulled off success in the semis. They
joined the final showdown and eventually Brazil took away the gold-ware. The two semi-final losers vied for bronze medal in the classification match and Japan clinched success.
The women’s Olympic volleyball matches attracted fans from all across the globe. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB) successfully managed the operations and created a great environment for volleyball
enthusiasts.
