Final rankings of 2011 FIVB World League revealed – Volleyball News

With the successful completion of the 2011 FIVB World League on Sunday, July 10 in Gdansk, Poland, the final rankings of the teams was revealed. Russia, Brazil and Poland walked away with the top three spots.
Men’s national volleyball teams from sixteen countries of the world fought the battle for supremacy. All in all, the 2011 FIVB World League was a great opportunity for players to showcase their skills in front of an international audience. At the same time,
it was a great chance for volleyball enthusiasts to enjoy their favourite sport. The first preliminary robin round of the tournament was hosted by several countries, while the most influential final phase was staged in Poland. At the end of final four matches,
the grid of 16 teams settled down in the following order:

Russia Brazil Poland Argentina Bulgaria Italy United States Cuba Serbia Finland Germany France South Korea Portugal Japan Puerto Rico
Teams were initially divided into four pools, where each pool contained four teams. The volleyball scrimmage started out with the preliminary round. The 2011 FIVB World League prelims continued for six weeks. At the end of the first stage of the tournament,
only eight could qualify for the Final Round. In the light of set formula of the Federation International de Volleyball, the top two finishers of each pool were allowed to play in the Final Round.
Pool A was comprised of Brazil, United States, Poland and Puerto Rico. Thanks to their good performance, Brazil and United States qualified for the next stage. Additionally, Poland was already confirmed for the Final Round because they were to host the last
stage of the tournament. Hence, three teams moved to the Final Round from Pool A.
Russia, Bulgaria, Germany and Japan covered the preliminary stage under the tag of Pool B. At the end of the prelims, Russia and Bulgaria were promoted to the next round. On the other hand, Argentina was the only team in Pool C that acquired the Final Round
Slot even though there was tough competition between Argentina and Serbia in Pool C.
Pool D promoted Cuba and Italy into the final round of the tournament. The qualifiers of the Final Round were further divided into two pools, while the unsuccessful teams of the preliminary stage took their positions on the ranking charts. The bottom eight
positions were filled in by the losers of the preliminary robin round.
The competition progressed and better teams booked their slots in the Final Four stage. They played the semi-finals and winners settled for final encounter of the tournament. Russia and Brazil fought a close battle in the final match but final word was given
in favour of Russia. Defending champion Brazil failed to seize the title, while Russia took away the title trophy.
Meanwhile, Poland defeated Argentina and got hold of the bronze. The rest of the teams played classification matches for 5-8 positions.
