Final results for the 16th Asian Senior Men’s Volleyball Championship released
The 16th edition of the biennial Asian Senior Men’s Volleyball Championship took place in Tehran, Iran from September 21-29 during which the top teams from Asia got together and showcased their volleyball skills. The organising authority, the
Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC), invited 16 teams from Pakistan, Chinese Taipei, China, Sri Lanka, South & North Korea, India, Afghanistan, Australia, Thailand, Tajikistan, Indonesia, Uzbekistan, Qatar, Japan, Kazakhstan, and hosts Iran.
The city of Tehran, Iran, hosted the teams with two indoor halls at the Azadi Indoor Stadium with a capacity of holding 12,000 spectators and Azadi Volleyball Hall with 3,000 fans capacity.
The competition was opened with a preliminary round robin, where the teams played scter being divided into four pools. The preliminaries were followed by the classification round. The event closed off with the Final Round matches. At the end of this exciting
Asian volleyball campaign, teams settled the following positions:
Iran (First) – Gold Medal China (Second) – Silver Medal South Korea (Third) – Bronze Medal Australia Japan India Pakistan Sri Lanka Kazakhstan Thailand Indonesia Qatar Chinese Taipei Turkmenistan Afghanistan Uzbekistan
Likewise, the players from different teams, who performed outstandingly well, were honoured with individual awards.

The host Iranian squad took full advantage of the opportunity and gave the home crowd what they wanted. They performed exceptionally well throughout the tournament and defeated their biggest rivals in the game in the final battle as they claimed their first
ever Asian Senior Men’s Volleyball Championship Title. On the other hand, China entered the competition under the tag of defending champion and the Chinese team was one of the favourites of the Asian Men’s Volleyball Championship. However, they could not overcome
the home team in the final match and ended up second in the tournament.
Three Iranian players settled for individual awards, while only one Chinese player could get the individual award. Jeon Kwang and Kim Yo-Han of Korea also worked out great performances in the tournament and led their team to a bronze-medal victory.
