Final results of All Africa Games revealed – Volleyball latest news
Following the successful completion of beach volleyball tournament at the 10th All Africa Games, the African Volleyball Federation (CAVB) revealed the final ranking and results of both men’s and women’s competitions on Thursday, September 15.
The All Africa Games featured a number of other sports, while the beach volleyball tournament completed its run from September 5-15. Maputo, Mozambique was the home of action during all these days. A total of eight teams from six African countries participated
in the competition and settled in the following order:
Men’s section
South Africa (First) Angola (Second) Ghana (Third) Nigeria (Fourth)
Women’s division
Mauritius South Africa Kenya Nigeria
Gold medal matches
In the men’s final, South African tandem of Freedom Chiya and Grant Goldschmidt proved to be the best team and settled for top honour of the tournament. The final showdown took place on Wednesday, September 14 at the Costa do Sol Arena in the Mozambique
capital of Maputo. South African duo defeated Angolan competitor in two straight sets and claimed the title trophy. Angolan brothers Marcio and Eden Sequeira clawed their way to the men’s final and faced Chiva/Goldschmidt. The South African duo posted 21-9
and 21-17, in order to announce match victory.
Likewise, the female pairing of Natash Rigobert and Elodie Li Youklo of Mauritius climbed up the top position and seized gold medal win. They were challenged by South African duo of Palesa Sekhenyana and Randy Williams in the final test of beach volleyball
skills. Both Mauritius players perfectly complimented each other and demonstrated a spectacular game. The counterparts couldn’t come close to them and accepted the better status of Mauritius tandem after two sets. The scoreboard showed the final digits of
21-13 and 21-12.
Third position matches
In the men’s third position match, Ajamako Seidu and Evans Tagoe of Ghana gave a brilliant performance against opposite team from Nigeria. The Nigerian duo consisted of Kayode Ajilore and Goodluck Anyasodnke who created lot of noise on the centre court and
gave a hard time to Seidu/Tagoe. Nigerian team dropped the opening set with a margin of 4 points but fought a great battle in second set as they were shy of success by just two points. Ghana tandem posted 21-17 and 27-25 in two sets and secured bronze-ware.
In the female category, duo of Margaret Indiaka and Dorcas Ndasaba got hold of the third place by beating Nigeria’s Agera Preiolla and Garba Mariam 2-0 (21-17, 21-12).
