Final round of Middle European League gets underway at the weekend – Volleyball news
The most significant ‘final four’ round of men’s Middle European Volleyball League is scheduled to take centre stage in Eastern Slovakian city Humenne at the weekend.
After tough competition in the earlier stage of the tournament, ACH Volley LJUBLJANA of Slovenia, Chemes HUMENNE of Slovakia, Austria’s Hypo Tirol INNSBRUCK, and Croatian Mladost Marina KASTELA qualified for the last stage of the tournament. ACH Volley will
be defending the title, while other three teams are up for the challenge to go on top.
On Monday, March 5, the team of Nova KBM Branik MARIBOR clinched success in the final showdown of women’s Middle European Volleyball League and claimed the gold medal. The women’s final took place in Schwechat, Austria. After the successful completion of
women’s edition of the Middle European League, all eyes are set on the men’s final four matches.
Slovakia's Chemes HUMENNE has high hopes to give a chance of celebration to the local fans. This is the first time that Chemes HUMENNE has clawed its way to the ‘final four’ stage of the tournament. They will be playing under familiar conditions and it is
a great chance for them to profit the home advantage.
Likewise, Mladost Marina KASTELA of Croatia has joined the final four for the first time in the history of the tournament. The other two teams are not new to the final round of the Middle European League. ACH Volley is considered the most favourite team
of the competition as it claimed four out of the last five editions of the tournament.
The Slovenian ACH Volley has returned from the prelims of 2012 CEV Men’s Champions League. The team could not advance to the next round but it is still in contention for other European Cups. They are quite confident to secure the top slot at the Middle European
League. Furthermore, they have also qualified for the semis of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Cup, which will be played in the next week.
Austrian Hypo Tirol is likely to face ACH Volley in the final match of Middle European League. Tirol also competed at the CEV Champions League but could not advance from the prelims. The ‘final four’ round will be opened with two semi-finals, which will
be followed by the final and classification match for third position in the tournament. Check back for latest results and updates.
