Final rounds of the 2011 Eric Namesnik Grand Prix - day three
Second session of day three of the 2011 Eric Namesnik Grand Prix concluded in Ann Arbor, Michigan with the finals of the 200m Individual Medley, 200m back-stroke and the 100m freestyle in the Men’s and Women’s category.
The championship is the fifth stop of the 2011 USA Grand Prix Series and is important for the world-class swimmers, as it precedes the 2011 Shanghai World Championships.
The session started with the Women’s 200m IM final, where the Fast ST-CA’s Ariana Kukors dominated the event in a time of 2:11.24 minutes. Unattached-PC’s Caitlin Leverenz and Una Palo-PC’s Jasmine Tosky followed her on the podium for the silver and bronze
medal in a time of 2:12.80 and 2:13.70 minutes respectively.
Next was the Men’s 200m IM, where Trojan Swim Club’s Oussama Mellouli out touched the defending champion Michael Phelps. Mellouli produced a wonderful swim of 1:59.42 minutes to earn the gold medal while Phelps earned the silver medal by clocking a time
of 1:59.63 minutes. Scott Clary followed them on the podium for the bronze medal in a time of 2:00.50 minutes.
Moments later, There Svendsen conquered the top of the podium in the Women’s 200m back-stroke by clocking 2:13.08 minutes. She was followed by Madison White and Sidney Cooke, who touched the wall in a time of 2:14.11 and 2:16.98 minutes respectively.
In the Men’s 200m back-stroke, the arena sighted a fierce battle among the top five finishers. Clary took a lead in the last lap to earn the gold medal in 1:56.61 minutes. Ryan Lochte followed him on the podium for the silver medal by producing a time of
2:00.21 minutes. However, there was a neck-to-neck race for the bronze medal among Robert Margolis, Leonardo Fim and Chris Dejong. Margolis out-touched them, clocking a time of 2:02.29 minutes against Fim’s 2:02.36 and Dejong’s 2:02.50 minutes respectively.
In the Women’s 100m freestyle, California Aquatic’s Dana Vollmer reached the podium for the gold medal in a time of 54.52 seconds to finish ahead of her team member Natalie Coughlin, who touched the wall second in a time of 54.93 seconds. Una Fast-CA’s Kara
Lyn Joyce followed them on the podium for the bronze medal in a time of 55.14 seconds.
The last event of the session was the Men’s 100m freestyle, where Brazilian SF’s Cesar Cielo Filho dominated the event ahead of the Michael Phelps. Filho clocked 49.12 seconds to reach the top of the podium while Phelps secured the silver medal in a time
of 49.48 seconds. The Bronze medal was secured by another Brazilian Nicholas Santos, who posted a time of 50.10 seconds.
These swimmers will face each other on the next stop of the USA Grand Prix in Charlotte from 12 to 15 May.
