Final rounds on day two of the 2011 Eric Namesnik Grand Prix – Swimming News
Day two of the 2011 Eric Namesnik Grand Prix concluded with the final rounds of the 200m butterfly, 100m backstroke, 50m freestyle and the 400m freestyle in the Men’s and the Women’s category in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
The competition is the fifth stop of the 2011 USA Grand Prix Series and precedes the 2011 Shanghai World Championships, in July.
The event started with the Women’s 200m butterfly final, where Jasmine Tosky demonstrated a wonderful swim in a time of 2:11.11 minutes to earn the gold medal. She was followed by Madison Wright and Caitlin Leverenz, who touched the wall for silver and bronze
medal in a time of 2:12.21 and 2:13.34 minutes, respectively.
After a few minutes, Peng Wu stunned the arena by conquering the Men’s 200m butterfly title over American swimmer, Michael Phelps. Wu clocked 1:56.62 minutes to earn the gold medal ahead of Marcin Cieslak and Scott T Clary, who followed him on the podium
for the silver and bronze medal in 1:57.13 and 1:57.56 minutes, respectively. Phelps failed to reach the podium and finished fourth in 1:57.79 minutes.
Next was the Women’s 50m freestyle final, where the arena witnessed Kara Lynn Joyce dominating the event in a time of 25.25 seconds. Delaroli Cazzio and Dana W Vollmer followed her on the podium for the second and third position by clocking a time of 25.36
and 25.45 seconds, respectively.
In the mean time, Cielo Filho conquered the title for the Men’s 50m freestyle by touching the wall in a time of 22.08 seconds ahead of his team-members Bruno Fratus and Nicholas Santos, who touched the wall in 22.52 and 22.54 seconds, respectively.
Moments later, Natalie Coughlin produced a dazzling swim in the Women’s 100m backstroke. Coughlin out touched her rival Elizabeth Pelton, with a timing of 1:00.04 minutes against Pelton’s 1:00.67 minutes. Pulga Molina followed them on the podium for the
bronze medal in a time of 1:00.95 minutes.
In the Men’s 100m backstroke, Michael Phelps cheered up the crowd with his wonderful swim of 54.15 seconds ahead of Ryan Lochte and David J Nolan, who clocked 54.81 and 55.10 seconds for the silver and bronze medal, respectively.
In the Women’s 400m freestyle, Kate Ziegler defeated the Olympic silver medallist Kathryn Hoff in a time of 4:07.78 seconds, while Hoff clocked in 4:08.23 minutes for the silver medal. They were followed by Andreina Pinto for the third spot in a time of
4:15.81 minutes.
The last event of the session was the Men’s 400m freestyle, where Scott T Clary earned the gold medal in 3:51.57 minutes and was followed by Michael Klueh and Charlie Houchin, who touched the wall in 3:52.01 and 3:52.81 minutes, respectively.
These swimmers will once again compete with each other at the next stop of the Grand Prix in Charlotte, from May 12-15.
