Final stage of LET Qualifying School: Seventy-two players pass the first test
The major phase of the Ladies European Tour (LET) Qualifying School has concluded with a flurry of excitement, as 72 players made it to the final stage.
A number of professional golfers participated in the event to prove their worth. The 72 players, who managed to graduate to the final stage, will look to do their best when they step on the course at La Manga Club in Cartagena, Murcia, Spain, on Sunday.
The final stage, beginning from Sunday, will pit 101 players against each other. The field for the event is diverse and will therefore add to the tough challenge.
The first four rounds will be played on the South and North courses, whereas the round that will decide the exemptions for the 2012 season will be played on the South course.
Another factor that has made the qualifying school more interesting is that the top 30 players will qualify for the LET membership in Category 8a.
Keeping in view the importance of the said membership, all the players will be putting their best foot forward to find a spot in the top 30.
Moreover, another category that will offer a place to the players is 9b. Those players who, after the final stage, make the cut but remain outside the top 30 will have to rely on their score to qualify for the membership of the said category.
Whereas, players who are not able to make the 72-hole cut, will qualify for Category 11a.
As far as the Pre-Qualifying round goes, Esther Choe, a rising player from the United States, remained the most spectacular. She was the best among the 35 players, who qualified at the La Manga Club on Wednesday.
Esther Choe exhibited phenomenal performance on the course, as she fired an overall 8-under par. She managed to card 71, 76, 66 and 67 in four rounds, winning the Group A competition.
Another prominent player who grabbed attention at the La Manga Club was English Hannah Burke. She clinched the Group B competition.
Keeping her rivals at a distance, Hannah Burke recorded an overall 11-under par. She managed to card 74, 69, 67 and 67 in four rounds.
It is yet to be seen who all will feature in the top 30 or secure a spot in Sunday’s La Manga Club event through other categories. The final stage is expected to be jam packed with thrill and excitement.
