Final teams announced for the Bayern-Rundfahrt
The 2012 version of the Bayern-Rundfahrt is scheduled from May 22-27 and the organisers have announced the final teams for the contest.
A total number of five Professional Continental and five Continental teams will join the already announced nine World Tour teams to ride the event.
It is believed that at least three teams from the event will went to ride the Tour de France 2012 later on.
Ewald Strohmeier is heading the event and he is positive that the combination of continental and professional continental teams will only make the event more exciting.
“We are staying true to our principles of having the absolute world's best at the start, but also giving young German riders a chance. This mixture promises a race that we can look forward to”, he briefed.
The German race had its first edition back in 1980 and was raced as an amateur event until 2008. It became part of the UCI Europe Tour in 2005 and is organised annually as a 2. HC race.
Kai Hundertmarck of Germany succeeded during the first version of the race while Geraint Thomas of Great Britain claimed the most recent edition of the event.
Jens Voigt and Michael Rich holds the honour of winning it for a maximum number of three occasions each.
Helmut Bolts is the new race director and he has hinted that all the new and old teams invited to the event are capable of taking the top position during the Belgian race.
He mentioned, “We shouldn't underestimate the smaller outfits. The Continental teams come with their best riders and will do everything to make lift tough for the top stars”.
“For most of them, the Bayern Rundfahrt is the absolute season highlight”, Bolts concluded.
The Professional Continental teams are Team NetApp, Team Topsport-Vlaanderen-Mercator, Team Saur-Sojasun, Europcar and Team Project 1t4i.
The five Continental teams are all from Germany including Team Eddy Merckx Indeland, Team Heizomat, Team NSP-Ghost, Team Thüringer Energie and Team Nutrixxion-Abus.
The mentioned ten teams will ride alongside the nine World Team announced earlier.
Team Euskaltel-Euskadi, Team FDJ Big Mat, Team Garmin-Barracuda, Team RadioShack-Nissan, Team GreenEdge, Team Katusha, Team Lampre-ISD, Team Sky and Team Saxo Bank are the nine World Tour teams for the event.
