Finale, the one to look out for in the Grade 3 Summer Stakes at Woodbine on 17 Septmeber
The 2-year-old Todd Pletcher trained colt, Finale, will be heading the field of 8 two-year-old colts and geldings, to participate in the Grade 3 $250,000 Summer Stakes at Woodbine racecourse on 17 September, 2011.
The Michael B. Tabor owned colt, Finale, is coming off the most convincing win any 2-year-old has managed this season.
Finale took out his wrecking ball, and started the demolition process in the $65,000 Continental Mile Stakes by an unbelievable margin of 10 ½ lengths on turf at Monmouth Park, over a distance of 1 mile.
The race was held on 20 August, 2011, and the winning time for the impressive colt was 1 minute and 35.24 seconds, which is superb for a young 2-year-old.
The son of Scat Daddy, out of Twinkle by Lively One, Finale, because of his impressive win in the Continental Mile Stakes, is expected to be the heavy favourite for the Summer Stakes, ahead of seven other colts and geldings.
In the Continental Mile Stakes, it was just a sublime performance turned in by Todd Pletcher trained Finale, who under jockey Joe Bravo broke last from the gate, and was shook up to lead down the back stretch.
The colt started towing the field, but Finale was too fast for his competition as he bolted through and through and never looked back.
“He’s the kind of horse that makes you say ‘wow’”, said winning jockey Joe Bravo.  “He gives off such confidence, and he backs it up with the way he runs.  He ran away so easily today, he was so impressive.  He has a bright future”.
Other juvenile runners to consider for the Summer Stakes, includes the Sid Attard trained Jomelo, who broke his maiden recently at Woodbine racecourse on 4 August, in his third attempt.
Another Sid Attard colt, Maritimer, will be there to double his trainer’s chances to win the Summer Stakes.
The colt took care of his maiden also in his third attempt. He finished second in the previous two maiden stakes races, but after the maiden breaker, he went on to win the state-bred Vandal Stakes.
