Some of the DVDs that we have recorded will not play on my daughter's DVD player.

Someone told us that they need

Finalising. Can you please tell me how to do this?

  1. To finalise adisk you need to go into your DVD options menu then on mine I go to DVD management select finalise job done.

  2. If the DVDs were shot in a DVD Cam then you need to finalise the disk prior to viewing, most DVD recorders like the Canon or Sony need to be plugged into the power via their cord then press the finalise button (follow your instruction book on that one), Rewritable disks can be unfinalised so that they can be reused.

If they were made through the computer than there is something wrong with the recording software, it should have finalised the disk prior to ejecting.

    Hope this helps.

  3. Everyone else told you about computer software and DVD camcorder options.  But if you have a stand alone DVD recorder that works like a VCR then the finalize option is in the menu.

Only DVD+R and DVD-R discs need to be finalized and nothing can be added to the disc once this is done.  Finalizing usually works either at the time the disc is done with software or after.  Finalizing with camcorders I am not familiar with so I will defer to those who have done this.  Finalizing with the stand alone machine works at any time but is always a separate process.  Any disc can only be finalized once.

DVD+RW and DVD-RW discs do not need to be finalized because they are rewriteable media.  But they cost more and can only be reused up to 100 times.  These are great for using like VHS tapes or DVR to time shift shows to watch later then erase so the media can be reused.

  4. This should already have been done by your burner program try

DVD Decrypter it automatically finalises discs

  5. depends what software you're using but generally speaking go into the burning options and select 'finalise disc - no files can be added later'.

  6. When burning the DVD, there will be an option to finalise them.  It means that you cannot add anything to them, but more players can read them.

You may be able to go back and finalise them now, but it may have needed to have been done when burning them initially.

  7. when you burn a DVD the program that you use should say if you want to finalize the disk but go to the options and look thru there and you will prolly have to check or uncheck a box that says if you want to finalize the disk

  8. Put the disc back into the machine in which it was  recorded then open the program you used to burn the disc and look for the Finalise option.

It may be cunningly disguised as "do you want to play this on another player" or similar.

Finalising adds a index structure to the disc so that dvd players can read it. Computer only discs don't need this.
