Can he hold on to the spot till year end or will Federer claim the spot back?

I think that Nadal has the cababilities of holding on to his title.  he is younger and more physically able than Federer is and he always stays with him in their matches.  His only problem was that he couldn't beat Federer on grass, which he obviously now can.  However, Federer is definitly going to be out for revenge.  It is a close call.  I predict it will continue to go back and forth for the next year or two.

roger is no more number 1.. NADAL is the number 1 now. i think he will be there here after. i dont think roger will again become number 1 by over taking nadal..

i think if nadal plays the level at which he currently is and is able to perform good(not even great) at the upcoming tournaments then nadal should atleast be able to hold on to his position till year end, which i am sure he will.

the beginning of next year will definitely be a struggle with all the hardcourt tournaments and loads of points to defend at the australlian open but I hope he does well.

There is an indefinite time. Nadal's fate as the new number 1 is in his own hands. If he performs well in the 5 major tournaments: masters series madrid, paris and especially the olympics, the us open and the tennis masters cup he can gain more points and maintain its lead over roger.

But as the 2009 season start, nadal should find ways to develop his hard court play otherwise djokovic murray even federer can take it away from him. He may invincible during the clay court season and equally favorite in the grass court season but most of the tournaments are played on hard courts. He should adjust his game on hard court to be able dominate the number 1 ranking.

i think nadal will hold on to number one for at least one year because he is unstoppable on clay and is a lot better on grass at wimbledon.
