Finally Lewis Hamilton takes a chill pill!
Before the last race was staged, the aggressive, chocolate skinned driver, Lewis Hamilton was a favourite contender for the 2010 season. However, his chances are diminishing fast after the driver failed to gather points at the Singapore GP.
After hitting a purple patch, the British racer has decided to take the rest of the seasons’ races with comparative calm and ease, saying that he would try to enjoy racing rather than only aiming for the world championship title.
As the season takes its final twists and turns, the McLaren driver, who has performed brilliantly all throughout the season, is wobbling at the finishing line. The British driver merely completed one, amongst the last four rounds of the season, while his
rounds at the Belgium, Italian and Singapore ended pointless.
At the Hungarian Grand Prix, his race ended at the 23rd lap, after facing a gear problem. The next race gave him a win in Belgium however it was followed by two very poor finishes again.
The Italian Grand Prix hardly ended for a minute as Hamilton collided with Ferrari's Felipe Massa, while making a poor overtaking move, right at the first lap, thus ending into the gravel with a damaged steering. The poor incident was followed by another
similar event in Singapore, as he collapsed with Mark Webber, while the two struggled for third place, leaving Hamilton distressed and disappointed once again.
Hamilton attributes these mishaps to immense pressure and stress that this season has brought. He has vowed to stay calmer and composed as he heads for season finale.
The 2010 season has no doubt emerged as a very demanding year for all drivers due to the intense nature of competition.
However, Hamilton is not the only man making the blunders. Rather several other skilled drivers have also made mistakes in the last few races, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull and Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso to name a few. The Spaniard even accused the media last
week for being too critical on the drivers and their mistakes clarifying that as the competition got tougher, even the best drivers could make mistakes on the track.
Normally, the battle for the title, at this part of the season shrinks between the top two drivers. However, this season has witnessed a contention that is rarely seen in decades. The top five drivers at the apex of the charts stay 25 points adrift from
each other, with only four or three races left, with the fate of the Korean Grand Prix undecided due to a poor race track.
Hamilton slipped down to second from the top spot after the Monza race. He then came down to the third place owing to the misfortune at Marina Bay. Currently, he is stitched at third place, being shy of 25 points from the chart leader Mark Webber.
"I've changed my attitude," claimed Hamilton after embracing the gloomy weekend. "I'm not looking at the world championship any more. I will try to win the next races but above all I want to enjoy my racing," the Briton further added.
As already announced by him, racing is his passion and he races because he enjoys doing that. Once again, he is adamant to enjoy his time on the tracks rather than being stressed and impatient.
So is it really because of the poor weekends that he says this or there are other reasons, only time will tell?
McLaren is not as fast as Red Bull and Ferrari that is already a known secret. Moreover the rest of the tracks are also supposed to suit the other two teams’ better than McLaren. In the end, the form of Webber and Alonso seen in last few races are far better
than Hamilton’s.
Now time will tell if Hamilton takes a chill pill because he has tailored a better strategy to cope with the situation or he has given up.
