Finally Narain Karthikeyan makes his way in Formula One
Finally, HRT has come up with its drivers’ line-up for the 2011 season. The Hungarian team has announced to bring Narain Karthikeyan, the Indian driver, back to the track after a period of six years.
In 2005, Karthikeyan made his debut in the highest ranking sport of the world with Jordan. After having a long struggling season, and being able to earn only five points, the driver wrapped up the year at 18th position in the drivers’ standings,
and was not seen in the sport for another five years. After his endeavour with Jordan, the 33-year-old was only able to secure a test driver’s seat with Williams in 2006 and 2007. However, the driver has now signed a contract of one year with the Hungarian
team, and will be seen on the 2011 grid, scheduled to begin this March in Bahrain.
The driver proclaimed that the major issue behind not being able to secure a seat in the past few years was the lack of sponsorship. Now, with the backing of the Indian car giant, Tata, the driver has been successful in getting a place in HRT, which is badly
struggling with the financial problems at the moment. It is believed that the driver’s arrival in the team, along with his giant sponsors, will help the team resolve some of its major monetary problems.
While talking to the media the driver stated, "It's been a while in the making, but I am delighted to be racing again in Formula One in 2011. I am confident that I have the pace, the fitness and the will to succeed in Formula One. I'm looking forward to
racing for HRT, and to working again with [team principal] Colin Kolles. We have a long standing and excellent working relationship together."
This year can prove very exciting for Narain as the Formula One caravan is set to enter his home town for the very first time ever. The Indian Grand Prix is scheduled to take place this October, which is one of the major reasons for the Indian sponsors to
take keen interest in the sport.
The racer concluded saying, "I have worked really hard to come back to F1 and it will be a dream come true to race in the first ever Indian Grand Prix in front of my fellow Indians. I hope that they will spur me on with their blessings and good wishes."
