Finally New York Jets’ Rex Ryan goes through a change in tone (Part 3)
Continued from Part 2......
All said, it now appears that the coach would be softening out his tone in future, with regard to what he had to say lately.
Ryan has admitted that his big talk and tall claims that he made did put the pressure on the players. That could have contributed to the team’s failure.
However, Ryan defended himself saying that all what he was trying to achieve was to put the pressure on himself rather than the team. He admitted that he failed in his attempt and said that he would not repeat the mistake.
“What I didn't anticipate was, I put added pressure on our players when I wanted to put the pressure on myself. That's something I obviously have to learn from." Ryan said.
Justifying his claims to win the super Bowl, Ryan said that what else a team could hope to achieve after having reached the championship games for two years. He was quite right in his comment but that was surely no justification
for the heavy handed approach he had adopted to make way with his claims that also included an unnecessary confrontation with his opponents.
The coach though agreed that they had lost their way through and got "busted".
Ryan also tried playing the locker room incident down. He termed the standoff between Sanchez and Holmes to be an isolated one while noting that such incidents were not “pervasive” throughout the locker room but it did have a negative
impact on the team.
Ryan also had the courage to agree that he did not have the pulse of the team and showed he was willing to come up on his shortcomings by being with the team more in the future.
That could possibly mean the coach spends more time with the team apart from being on the field to avoid such scenarios in the future.
"I want to be a great head coach," he said. "I want to be. Am I there yet? No, I'm absolutely not there yet, but I am willing to work to get there." Ryan said.
Another change that was witnessed in Ryan was that he took strides at his former offensive coordinator whom he had been supporting all along.
Schottenheimer, under whom the Jets offense ranked at the 27th number in National Football League (NFL) with just an average of 307.7 yards per game, was blamed to having contributed to the team’s failure on account of keeping
a complicated offensive system.
This complicated system Ryan said had made him keep away from the offense this season.
"Quite honestly, the verbiage we had last season was probably a little much," Ryan said.
This new revelation comes in contrast to the strong support that Ryan had been demonstrating for Schottenheimer.
So, with the coach undergoing through a change in his tone, it could be possible that his support for Sanchez may slump with time.
The owner had recently given that indication when he said that he would view all possible options in order to get the team to the top level. He also said that he would consider the possibility of acquiring Peyton Manning if he
were to be available.
That may bring about a possible chance in Ryan’s stance who had earlier said that he would prefer the likes of Manning to Sanchez.
It appears that Ryan is going through a change in his attitude as he has recently softened his tone. That could also possibly mean that he would make changes in his earlier decisions too.
However, Ryan continues to be obsessed with his ambitions which will no sooner lessen with time.
