Me and my fella have been TTC since Jan and after a misscarriage in june i have finally got my BFP!!! Now what i want to know is how far along were you all when you went to the doctors>? what did they do? and also i am worried that they might not be able to do the ultrasound scans easily because i am a plus size (UK size 18/20) has anyone else had these thoughts and it turned to be all fine. i would be so embarrased if they could not get my baby on the scan,.

  1. i went to my doctors at 6 weeks to register and get my info pack, seen the midwife at 8 weeks (she booked my scan, gave me information etc) got my first scan on 17th Sept so will be nearly 13 weeks by then.

You are not the first woman thats a size 18/20 to be pregnant and you wont be the last, really wouldn't worry about that!!

    Good luck and congrats

  2. Hey!!

I was so worried when i found out i was pregnant because i was only 20 years old and I'm a very large girl my jeans were about a size 24 - 26!!! But i went for my first scan when i was 11 weeks and they could see everything they needed too!! I drank a lot of water before hand which helped, but they did have to press harder than normal and when you need to wee that bad its not good!!! It was amazing!

I had to see a Midwife to talk about all the problems about being my size and having a baby and they told me i would get diabetes, high blood pressure and all sorts and nothing like that has happened!!

I'm always hot with some bad back pains but that's normal with any pregnancy!!

I'm now nearly 31 weeks and cant wat for him to arrive!

Please don't worry or feel embarrassed about scans and appointments because of your size i must be so much bigger than you and they even saw very clearly that its a definite boy on my 20week scan!! I'm sure they see people a lot bigger than me too!!

Congrats and hope all is well!! Seeing your little baby on that screen for the first time is just so amazing!

  3. Don't worry about it. I was a 16/18 when i fell pregnant and was also worried about my size but the ultrasounds were fine, no probs at all. Your only concern may be if your BMI is over 30 you will automatically be class as a 'high risk pregnancy' so you have to have a quite closely monitored labour and delivery.

I know a woman who was a size 26 when she fell pregnant so if they can do her scans ok, you will be fine.

  4. I was more plus size than that with two of my three pregnancies. Your are not too big to see the baby lol. In the early stages they may do an ultrasound inter-vaginally, they did that with my very fist pregnancy when there were complications at an early stage. There are women of all shapes and sizes, no reason to be embarrassed about anything! Good Luck and take care!

  5. dont u be embarrased, be proud your carrying a miracle x x x, next i believe does pregnancy clothes for all shapes and sizes and the internet has some great web sites to, i myself am a size uk12 now,and personally when the bump starts to show it does not matter how your body looks u feel great, at  which time i was a blooming size 16...they could see my baby very clearly on the ultrasound scans x x

who needs dieting when u have a little one on the go x x lol, and congrats x x

just checked next goes upto size 22 x x

  6. hey congrats on the pregnancy.

I went to the doctors at about 8 weeks, there is no point in going straight away because you get let alone for a while n e ways they just book you in for your 12 weeks can (there is not a waiting list) and after the scan you dont see a midwife until about 16 weeks, so leave it as late as possible, otherwise u will feel as if uv known for ages and the pregnancy will drag.

Im a bigger girl too, im a 14 so dont worry just make sure before your scan you drink loads of water until your about to burst lol i did that and everyones been so suprised about how clear my scan pic was, good luck wth the pregnancy xx

  7. Congradulations!!!

I booked an appointment with my doctor the day after I took my pregnancy test...my period was about 4 weeks late at that stage. He didnt do much with me, he confirmed my pregnancy, gave me a very rough estimated due date (which changed after my first scan) he weighed me, checked my heart and lungs, answered any questions I had. Told me to take Folic Acid and gave me a letter to take out to the hospital in order to arrange my first scan. I was about 6 weeks along at that stage.

When I had my first scan the doctor was really rude, my partner asked  if we could get a better print out of the scan picture and the doc looked at me with a grin and said "Im afraid shes too chubby to get a clearer picture"...I was mortified. But I have to say in my defence I was very bloated that day..ok Im no slim Jim, I always have had a bit of extra weight but EVERYTHING on the screen was so visible...little nose, knees, fingers...it was amazing. We later discovered that the machine was out of paper and that was the real reason behind her not want to do a re-print of the scan for us...what a B*TCH.

Dont worry about your weight when pregnant..just eat healthy and take some gentle excerise.

    Best of Luck xx

  8. I went to the midwife with this pregnancy at 8 weeks.  That was when they preferred to see me.  Some docs will wait until 12 weeks and some will allow you to make your appt. right away.  Either way, it all works out in the end.  Don't worry about the ultrasound.  They will still be able to see your baby.  Best of luck with your pregnancy and congratulations!!

  9. Congratulations!

Your baby will not necissarily be big, just because you are an 18/20.  I started as a 16/18 and am now roughly the size of a house at 34 weeks.  But had a late placental scan and my baby was predicted as coming under the weight of my first babe, who was 8 pounds 14.

Mothercare do size 20 over the bump trousers, but i was not impressed, because they seem to think that pregnant women have legs that are seven foot long!!  However, Red Herring do size 18 over the bump trousers that are superb, at Debenhams, so you will find clothes to fit and I couldn't fault Mothercares tops.

A couple of times they have pulled at my stomach to do a procedure, I get the feeling this is because I am large, but, I am not going to shrink now, and my scans have been just fine.

    Well done to you.

  10. You are a worry wart.  Lots of plus size women have babies.  The scanner will work through the chunkist of women.  I went to my doctors at 6 weeks, they did a urine test, said well done and told me to book a midwife appointment for 8-10 weeks.

I'm now 21 weeks and after 2 miscarriages, and this one being an absolute pain, I'm counting the weeks down!

Enjoy the early weeks, cos once back ache, sweatyness and leaky b***s start, you be counting down the weeks also.

  11. you will be just fine. I am WAY bigger than that. I am now a 26-28 and I was bigger than that with my last 2 pregnancies. The dr had no problem with the Ultrasounds. He could see my babies just fine. The ONLY problem I had was high blood pressure during the pregnancies. Its fine now. The dr told me not to try and lose weight, but if I did or stayed at the same weight it was ok for my baby because I had so much extra already. Do not worry about your size, plenty of us out here way bigger than you!!

  12. You should not have a problem seeing your baby on ultrasound. Make an appointment to see your midwife, they will tell you everything you need to know.

    Good luck!!
