Finals of the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships: Day four – Swimming News
Final session of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Swimming and Diving Championships has concluded at the Allan Jones Aquatic Centre, in Knoxville, Tennessee.
The first event of the night was the Women’s 100-yard freestyle final, where the fastest qualifying swimmer, Kendra Stern, again dominated the race in an improved time of 49.50 seconds. Amanda Croix of Carthage and Laura Barito of Stevens reached the podium
after Stern for the silver and bronze medals in a time of 49.62 and 50.17 seconds, respectively.
In the Men’s corner, Craig Fleming of Kalamazoo occupied the gold medal after his fastest qualification time, as he touched the wall in 44.06 seconds. Kenyon’s David Somers and Stewart-Bates followed Fleming for the silver and bronze medal in a time of 44.38
and 44.42 seconds, respectively.
After a few moments, Emory’s Anne Culpepper won the title of the Women’s 200-yard backstroke in a time of 1:58.62 minutes and was followed by Denison’s Emil Schroeder and Emory’s Sadie Nennig in a time of 1:59.19 and 2:00.93 minutes, respectively.
In the Men’s corner, Quinn Bartlett of Denison won the title for the same event in a wonderful time of 1:46.85 minutes. He finished ahead of his team-mate Robert Barry and Conn College’s Timothy Walsh, who touched the wall for the second and third spot in
a time of 1:47.29 and 1:47.69 minutes, respectively.
Emory’s April Whitley grabbed the title for the Women’s 200-yard breast-stroke with a timing of 2:14.62 minutes and was comfortably ahead of Westminster’s Courtney Herdt, who touched the wall in a time of 2:17.15 minutes for the silver medal. Another Emory’s
swimmer, Kathryn Mroz, secured the bronze medal in a time of 2:17.43 minutes.
In the Men’s category, Whitworth’s Rory Buck won the gold medal for the same event in a record breaking time of 1:57.79 minutes and was comfortably ahead of Pavel Buyanov of Staten Island, who finished in 2:00.31 minutes, securing the silver medal.
In the Women’s 400-yard freestyle relay, Emory won the title in a time of 3:22.39 minutes ahead of Denison and Stevens, who touched the wall in a time of 3:23.43 and 3:24.81 minutes, respectively.
In the Men’s corner, the same event was conquered by Kenyon in a time of 2:56.63 minutes by defeating M.I.T and Denison, who touched the wall for the second and third position in a time of 2:59.65 and 2:59.72 minutes, respectively.
