Question:

Financial Aid denied due to academic progress (SAP/GPA Ratio)?

I started college when I was 17 years old. I failed miserablly and didn't even finish the semester out (boy, was I stupid) I had no childcare for my daughter and I wound up having to quit. I got an F, a few W's and an I.

I'm trying to go back now (15 years later) for my batchelors degree. My school is saying that my financial aid has been denied due to Academic progress. I would appeal it, but the reasons why you can appeal are nowhere listed on the application. Does this mean that I can't appeal?

If I can't get financial aid, I can't go back to school :(

  1. An appeal letter is you simply explaining what happened 15 years ago and that now you are ready to go back to school and get good grades.  Be sure to mention how long its been, how young you were, how old -and not needing childcare- your daughter is and any plan  you have that will prevent you from dropping out again if you have an emergency situation again.  Listing definite and strong academic goals also seem to help.  The key is to explain why your fin aid was denied in detail so they know you know what not to do again.

Be sure you spell check the letter.  It's bachelor's degree, not batchelors degree.  Small things like these also make a difference.  If you turn in something that isn't at college level, they will assume you will flunk out anyway. Have someone else proof it for you.

    Good luck.
