Financial Trouble - may need to move - best way to do it with no car?

My car just developed serious problems, and it's undriveable. I don't have the resources to get it fixed, and I'm pretty much out of work now since the people I'd normally be able to catch rides with are out of town on vacation... not to mention I work about 40 miles away from where I live, no bus routes, and cab is not financially viable. Due to some serious bad luck and health problems in the last year, I'm scraping the barrel and now I'm a few days and rapidly fading options away from setting up a big cross country move.

The place I have to go is in Maine, with family. I'm in Florida. I am 23, and my boyfriend is 25. But we don't have a credit card and our debit/checking has about $400 in it. I can get some help from the family I'm going to, but if they rent a car+trailer, or a Uhaul (which so far is looking to expensive), won't they have to be there to pick it up?

What is the best way for me to make it up there?

  1. You need to start making some calls to find out how the rental companies work, it may be that the family member can call and make the payment for the use of the moving truck. If you are renting one in FL, you would drop it at a location in ME...But, you need to call and find out how they accept payments....tell them it's a one way haul....Try this site too...I moved from NH to TN about 8.5 years ago and it's expensive, but I had a 27' truck...http://www.pensketruckrental.com/persona...

    Good Luck!
