Financial aid: independent now but can i change back to dependent?

I am 22 yrs old and married. I will be getting a divorce soon but will this revert my status back to dependent because im not yet 24?

  1. No, once you have been married you can't go back to being a dependent student don't think.


  2. I don't think so, but you should just call the financial office at whatever school you are attending.

  3. It won't revert your status for the school year you have already applied 08-09 (usually Aug 08 to July 09).  If you don't have kids or any of the other qualified things, then yes, you will be considered dependent again and need parents info.  No way around it except NOT to get divorced.  

    If you are LEGALLY separated but not divorced, you would still be considered independent.

  4. If you can still be Independent because you have children, were in the military or was a ward of the court or foster sytem until until you were 18, then no. If not, you may still be able to be an Independent (inquire about this).
