Financial crisis a source of changed perspective for David Duval
David Duval is a person who has never considered himself different from everyone else. Being a sports icon and a huge success, he has never thought for himself to be special.
Duval did not belong to a wealthy family. He had a tough child hood and had to deal with very difficult times.
The ultimate low point of his life came when he was only nine years old. His brother had aplastic anemia. Duval went through a painful bone marrow donation in order to save his brother. Now he is of the view that it was not only his family who was going
through such hard times.
Duval is going through a big financial crisis again. He has just taken a ‘gigantic financial hit’ from the real estate collapse. He has tried to work out a solution with the bank for this problem.
Duval did not explain the conditions of the negotiations, as those are private talks. He has now a different outlook towards this problem and does not seem stressed out at all.
This rough patch through which Duval is going has affected both the professional and personal life of the player.
He has not been able to concentrate on this game. In an interview he said, “It's been a very big distraction. I have the weight of this on me”.
Duval has two kids with his wife, Susie. He also has three children from the previous marriage. Now she has to take care of the home and also has to deal with the banks.
The last tournament she went to with Duval was at New Orleans in April. This was also the last time the American made the cut.
He said, “This kind of thing can break us or hold us together, and we're tighter than ever. We're more in love than ever. It's a hugely stressful time, especially when information is out there that's inaccurate. She's been an angel. I think she's the greatest
thing ever. She's my hero. I tell her that every day”.
David Duval’s family has left their home and currently is living at a place that they have taken on rent.
