I've been through a rough time that has left me financially devastated. My credit score has dropped to a 575 and I now have 8 negative items on my credit report. Now I can't even get a decent apartment. What can I possibly do to raise my credit in this situation. I understand the marks will stay on my credit but how do I possibly rectify the situation and improve it at the same time. Please help, I'm desperate.

  1. Pay off all accounts that are in collections, the agency may be willing to settle the debt. Pay down current credit card debt so that the balance is less than 30% of the credit limit. Continue paying all bills on time.

  2. work double ship or borrow cash from your parents

  3. You can try a place like Second Chance Financial which will help shorten the time your credit is screwed up.  But time is still a big factor here on getting back on track.  Make sure ALL your bills are paid on time and your checking account balance doesn't go negative from this time going forward.  It's a small answer to a big problem, but this is the best way to start -- unless you are expecting some big inheritance check.  Unfortunately, most of us aren't so lucky.

  4. well first fix the negatives and also what I did to fix my credit was get a small card like a radio shack card or best buy and make small affordable purchases with them and pay them off quickly every month do this for 3 months it will work.

  5. Try to pay off your revolving debt as quickly as you can. Keep a credit card, but pay the balance off every month. Consider moving into a spare room in someone's house that you wouldn't need a credit check for. Over time, your credit will recover. Either that or you'll end up being the next spokesman for freecreditreport.com, and who doesn't love that guy? Also, don't work with any debt consolidators because they're owned by the credit companies.

    4. Pay down credit cards to 10% of limit, then pay off every month but use it. Never go above 10% of limit.

    5. No new debt.

That will get you started.  Most actions to repair your own credit will take 2-24 months.

The websight can go as high (no promises) as 100 points in 60 deays depending on what is on your report!  You will have to leaern how to maintain your credit after it is fixed.

  8. There are plenty of landlords that don't require a credit check. The best that you can do is try and get some kind of credit card or cell phone plan and keep paying on it, that'll improve your score a little.

  9. You're asking this in the marriage/divorce section?

First thing, is to throw out all but one credit card.  Get a second job and start paying them off.  Buy things you need at the second hand stores, use coupons at the grocery store.  Time to tighten up the belt and stop spending spending spending.  Rent a room from someone until you have some SAVED money, with all your bills paid off.  Bad credit is better than no credit, but if your reports show that you have made drastic improvements to fix your credit, you'd be a lot better.  If you need a cell phone, get one of those pre-paid kind, like TracFone.  Then, just rent a room, get a second job and work to pay it all off and SAVE.  Always put something, even $25 away into savings.  It won't take too long to get your debts paid off and you'll still have saved money.  Others work two jobs, so can you.
