Question:

Financing products as a minor

Can you make monthly payments on products from, let's say, Best Buy as a minor?

I am 17, and I have a good steady income. I am interested in buying a new laptop and I'd like to finance it. I have a PayPal debit/credit card under my name, so I'm wondering if that would be good enough to use for financing? Thanks.

  1. It might but I doubt it.  Check with Best Buy.

  2. You may need a co-signer by borrowing somebody else's credit name.  Your problem is a legal one.  People cannot legally lend you money because you are not 18.  If you can find somebody who will lend you money under 18 and then you default, then they do not have a legal recourse to go after you.  However, by borrowing somebody else's credit by co-signing, then you could borrow because the co-signer is then liable for your debt in case of default.

    Good luck in your quest.
