I recently graduated Airborne school at Ft.Benning. On my first jump I noticed a small glimmer in the dirt on my way walking off the DZ. It was a old dogtag, just the short chain with one tag. On my next jump I landed in the middle of the field, a good 400m away from my first landing, and found another short chain and dogtag, but from another guy. These tags are old, they use Mil ID numbers rather than your Social Security Number like now. I think i read that they switched from Mil ID to SSN in 1969. I'd like to know if there is a place with a full list of Airborne graduates, or a full list of former servicemen. I've found some sites but they want to charge money to access these records, and it seems like these records should be free, somewhere on the internet. I would just like to see who these tags belonged too, maybe they want them back haha.

Here is the info off the tags if anyone is curious:

TAG1:

CURLEY

ROBERT L

RA 17 747 155

A

BAPTIST

TAG2:

GASPAR

ALLAN R

RA11 620 239

O

CATHOLIC

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

  1. maybe you can check out somewhere on base that keeps records, not quite sure though  its pretty cool though that you found that...

  2. Take it to Building 4, explain where you found it. They can do the records search and see if the two men are still living and able to be contacted.

Good for you for going Airborne! ALL THE WAY!!!  (I graduated in 1984.. did you happen to find my sanity lying around anywhere?)
