Find the equation of the straight line which is parallel to the line with equation 2x + 3y = 5 and which passes through the point (2, - 1)

  1. 3y=-2x+5

    y=-2/3x+5/3

    slope=-2/3

    parallel line have same same slope.

    y=mx+c

    -1=(-2/3)(2)+c

    c=1/3

    equation for straight line is

    y=(-2/3)x+1/3

    3y=-2x+1

    2x+3y=1


  2. solve for y. the slope is the number that is multiplied by x.

    then look at the equation y=mx+b.

    plug in y=-1 and x=2

    -1=(slope from first equation)x +b

    solve for b

    the answer you will get will be in the form

    y=(slope)x + (the b you just solved for)
