Find the equation of the line in slope-intercept form through point (5,2) and parallel to line y=5x-1?

  1. y = 5x-23

    (It's parallel so the slope remains the same [5], it's just the y-intercept that's changed).


  2. The parallel line will have the form y=5x+b.  Since you know the line passes though (5,2), plug in 5 for x and 2 for y to figure out what b is.

    2=5*5+b

    2=25+b

    -23=b

    y=5x-23
