C= 5.5x^1/2+ 10000 cost equation

and the revenue R for selling x units is

R = 3.29x revenue equation

p.s. X^1/2 is the square root of x

  1. Well, this is kind of embarrassing since I'm pretty good at math I think LOL. But I couldn't see the way to solve for x algebraically!

    So, I used Excel and put the two functions in separate columns and narrowed it down to the answer x = 3,133.09. So sales of 3,133 units will fall just barely short of break-even, and sales of 3,134 units will just barely exceed the break-even point.

    Sales necessary to break even = 3.29 * 3,134 = 10,310.86.
