  1. The slope of a line is the ratio of the change in y over the change in x.

    formula = m=y2-y1/x2-x1

    in your question a : y1=5,

                                   y2=4,

                                   x1=1,

                                    x2=-3

    therefore slope= 4-5/-3-1

                            =-1/-4=1/4

                            (ans) = 1/4

    B. x1=-1

        x2=-2

        y1=6

        y2=3

    slope= 3-6/-2-(-1))

            = -3/-1

            = 3(ans) = 3

  2. The answer to this question is really simple if you know the slope equation.  It's (y2-y1)/(x2-x1) where (x1,y1) and (x2,y2).

    So using this equation take your points

    A = (1,5) so x1 = 1 and y1 = 5

    B = (-3,4) so x2 = -3 and y2 = 4

    (y2-y1)/(x2-x1) = (4-5)/(-3-1) = (-1)/(-4) = 1/4

    The answer is C

    Do the same for problem 2

    P = (-1,6) so x1 = -1 and y1 = 6

    Q = (-2,3) so x2 = -2 and y2 = 3

    (y2-y1)/(x2-x1) = (3-6)/(-2+1) = (-3)/(-1) = 3

    The answer is C

    I hope you found this information useful and hope that you can now solve any problem like this one in the future.

  3. 1) C

    Difference in Y over Difference in X = -1 / -4 = 1/4 (Editted)

    2) C

    Difference in Y over Difference in X = -3 / -1 = 3

    *First to get it right :D*

  4. 1- gradient  4-5/-3-1

    = -1/-4

    = 1/4

    C

    2- 3--1/-2-6

    4/-8

    -1/2

    D
