Question 1: Find the solutions for x in the equation: x^2-8x-24=20

Question 2: Find the solutions for x in the equation: x^2-2/3x+1/9=0

And could you possibly tell me how to do it too? THANKS.

  1. Question 1: Find the solutions for x in the equation: x^2-8x-24=20

    x^2-8x-24-20=0

    x^2-8x-44=0

    (x + 4) (x - 11)

    x = -4  x = 11

    Question 2: Find the solutions for x in the equation: x^2-2/3x+1/9=0

    x^2-2/3x+1/9=0

    (x -1/3) (x - 1/3)  

    x=1/3


  2. question 1 you subtract 20 from both sides. then you find out what two factors foil to get that answer. ex (x+4)(x+1).  then do the same for question 2. the fractions may throw you off but dont worry, they are always easier than they seem

  3. Put any quadratic in the form ax^2 + bx + c = 0

    and use

    x = (-b + or - sqrt(b^2 - 4ac))/2a

    You do not need any other method.

  4. x^2 - 8x - 4 = 0

    Using the quadratic equation

    x = { 8  ÃƒÂ‚± Sq Root ( 64  +  16 ) }  ÃƒÂƒÃ‚·  2

    x = {8 ± Sq Root(80)} ÷ 2

    x^2-2/3x+1/9=0

    Using the quadratic equation

    x = {2/3 ± Sq Root ( 0.44444  +  0.44444 ) } ÷ 2

    x = {2/3 ± Sq Root(0.88888) } ÷ 2
