Question 1: Find the solutions for x in the equation: x^2-8x-24=20

x^2-8x-24-20=0

x^2-8x-44=0

(x + 4) (x - 11)

x = -4  x = 11

Question 2: Find the solutions for x in the equation: x^2-2/3x+1/9=0

x^2-2/3x+1/9=0

(x -1/3) (x - 1/3)  

x=1/3

question 1 you subtract 20 from both sides. then you find out what two factors foil to get that answer. ex (x+4)(x+1).  then do the same for question 2. the fractions may throw you off but dont worry, they are always easier than they seem

Put any quadratic in the form ax^2 + bx + c = 0

and use

x = (-b + or - sqrt(b^2 - 4ac))/2a

You do not need any other method.

x^2 - 8x - 4 = 0

Using the quadratic equation

x = { 8  ÃƒÂ‚± Sq Root ( 64  +  16 ) }  ÃƒÂƒÃ‚·  2

x = {8 ± Sq Root(80)} ÷ 2

x^2-2/3x+1/9=0

Using the quadratic equation

x = {2/3 ± Sq Root ( 0.44444  +  0.44444 ) } ÷ 2

x = {2/3 ± Sq Root(0.88888) } ÷ 2
