A 40kg object needs to be lifted, using a force of 20N. The length of the lever from the pivot point to the object is 0.65m. Find the total length of the lever?

  1. 1 [kgf] = 10 [N]

    40 [kgf] = 400 [N]

    Leverage is proportional to lengths involved on both sides of the pivot point...

    in this case:

    20 [N] has to "balance" 400 [N]

    20 to 400 equals 1 to 20

    1 : 20 = 0.65 : x  eq  x = 20*0.65 = 13.00 [m]

    Total length: 13.00 + 0.65 = 13.65 [m]
