I came across an old Sony Tapecorder 260 and some reels of tape. First I have no idea how to use it and I was wondering how I could figure out what its worth?? I have no interest in keeping it but I dont want to sell it for $20 if its worth a lot more.

A good way to determine the value of vintage electronics is to look at auction sites such as ebay to find what other people are paying for similar items.

You will find the value varies considerably depending on the condition and rarity of the item.  Often you may find an identical item to the one you wish to sell.  Such research usually gives you a pretty good idea of how much to ask for your item.  You may want to search Craigslist, too.

I am familiar with the Sony Tapecorder 260,  It was a very popular machine.  It was considered reliable and well built.  Certainly it would be best if you could determine if yours is in working order.  It would clearly increase its value.

They were simple to connect and use, so perhaps you have a friend who could help you connect it to a Stereo system and check it out.  I did a little looking for you and for your unit, found starting bids at about $10.00 and up to $79.00 as the “buy it now” price.

Here is a link to some vintage tape recorders on ebay.

And here is a link to a unit identical to yours.

Here is a link to one on Craigslist in the Atlanta listings:
