  1. the x intercept is when y = 0, so just plug in 0 for y and solve for x.

    0 = x^3 -4x

    x(x^2-4)=0

    x (x-2)(x+2)=0

    therefore x = 0, -2, 2

  2. when y=0 u can find x intercepts

    x^3 -4x =0

    x(x^2-4)=0

    x (x-2)(x+2)=0 by difference of 2 squares

    but now we use the zero property

    either x=0 or x-2=0 or x+2=0

    this must be stated

    therefore x =-2, 0,+2
