Question:

Finding Rentals located near Vicenza, Italy?

My husband is looking to get stationed in Vicenza and we were trying to look in advance for some of the available rentals. Can anyone suggest a site or a guide to check out? Also, how hard is it to find rentals that allow dogs? We have three med/large dogs that we'd like to bring with us. Would love to hear about any experiences in Italy. We just moved from Hawaii so I'd like to be prepared this time around...

  1. I've been to that base its really nice!! WE live in Naples and have been stationed here for over 4 years. The housing office will help you alot. this is the baase website http://www.gettingaround.net/shtml/usare... with everything about the base. I know that down here there is no problem finding a house that allow dogs. But you do know that shipping 3 dogs will be very hard since they only let 2 on a AMC flight at a time so you have to fly commerical and then pay some major money for that. The other issue is that most houses dont have lots of yard like ours we have about 2 strips of grass. Plus they have a really bad dog diease here the mqousites carry it and its like aids for the dog and its very painful for the dog and it kills them slowly so you have to go the vet on base and get these collar things.  The other thing I'm not sure about army and Af since we are navy but they are starting to make people live on base/post not matter what and if that happens no dogs allowed to live on base. The exchange rate is really bad and getting worest its $1=E.70 so keep that in mind when you want to live out in town because ulitlities are killer here. If you need any more infor let me know.

  2. My brother is station in Vicenza. It's a nice quite city.  Apart from those complaining about the enlargement of the base is good.

I believe housing helped him finding a rental house.  He lives in a five bedroom house.  Nice garden and everything.  I know some Americans that have bought their houses there.

I live on the other side of the North in Lombardy, close to the Alps in a little town, but close to the city.  I have access to everything..so I can't complain.

Like in everything you will have your good and bad experiences.  I can tell you that the American families I know prefer to sign up their toddlers at the Italian asilo, because is much better than on post.  In fact, my little nephews should start in September.

When I go to visit them I shop at Auchan, which is a French supermarket chain.  It's very good.

Since, Vicenza is a gold post, you may find very good deals if you want to buy gold.

We may bump into each other sometime...have a good trip.
