Finding Siblings?

My little brother was given up for adoption as an infant. Can anyone give me any information on how my sisters and I can find him. We have some information on him but not much. Our parents are not cooperative. He was adopted and born in Florida. Any help would be so wonderful. Thanks so much!

  1. It is a problem where people do not want someone to be found.

Aside from the other good info so far, there are detective agencies that may be able to help, but the costs will be quite high.

You could also have a trained and licensed professional hypnotist help you search your memories for things you might have forgotten but that would be useful in the search.

And of course you can pray for God's guidance and then be sensitive since it might not be God's will for you folks to get together at this point.  Sometimes long lost relatives appearing is traumatic, much as they want to take up the relationship.

Good luck, and be sensitive; do not let your own desires override common sense or put your brother under heavy stress.

  2. How old would your brother be now? If he is not 18 or older, it’s unlikely that you could get any information. If he was adopted in Florida try and find out what city or county it was in. Even if your parents wouldn’t help is there another family member who would at least know where they lived in Florida?, then you could start looking at adoption agencies in that area. Grant it will be hard with such little information and your parents not willing to help.

You might get in contact with a search Angel [http://adoption.about.com/cs/sear2/a/sea... ] or go to various adoption sites sometimes adoptees and birth family will post stuff in the quest to find the other.

  3. Here is a link for Fl adoption registry, this is the first place that you should register your information.  http://adoptflorida.com/Reunion-Registry...

I will tell you that if he is not 18 years old yet he will no be permitted to register with the above site or any other until he reaches that age.  FL will allow contact if there is a consent for contact in the file from the person being searched for.  Here is a link that explains FL adoption search laws.

    http://laws.adoption.com/statutes/florid...

If you do not have his birthdate and place of birth this will be a very difficult search because you will not have any information to register with.  Your parents may be reluctant to give you information because when they relinquished him they were most likely told that they would never be allowed any contact.  Adoption search and reunion laws are changing around this country and more adoptees are choosing to search for one reason or another.  Do some research and explain to them that he may indeed one day want to need to find them and if they would reconsider their opinion.

A good site to research and give you ideas on how to talk with them is.

    www.adoption.com

I can tell you this.  Fl can be a difficult place for adoption searches.

    Good luck!

  4. well sometimes doctors can't tell u the imfomation....so i would ask my parents to plz help....if u really wanted to find ur brother then they will underson.

  5. im not sure someone will answer your question tho,

im sry about ur family though, really that hurts me

  6. Your little brother may not want to be found. I think it is best to let him do it, seek you. And if your parents do not want you to do it, then you should respect there wishes as long as they live. Don't do it because you can. Giving up children is not easy. He has no memory of you and he may not know he is adopted. Do you want to risk his happiness as well as your parents? You did not give your age or your brothers. I think you need to think about it a  lot more.  Good luck

  7. Well first of all I would go with the obvious approach of googling the names (assuming you know them) of your siblings. Checking facebook/myspace would also be smart, depending on how old they are. Next you could check out some sites that are meant for stuff like this, such as:

    http://birthfamily.adoption.com/birth-pa...

    http://karensadoptionlinks.com/siblings....

Hope that helps, and good luck.

  8. Try Tina's Adoption Search.  It is a great website and they can teach you how to search, who to contact, etc.

    Great site!

    Good luck!

  9. If he is old enough to have a myspace, seach for him on there.

I have seen a show on tv before where a girl who was adopted found her brothers through myspace.

  10. uhhh. that gonna be hard!
