  1. Hi!! the best people for finding missing relatives i know of is the Salvation Army they are wonderful with their organisation.

I presume you have them in the US as they are in most countries of the world. If not then maybe there is most likely some other church type set up that  will try for you.

They do not usually make a charge but if successful they would expect a voluntary donation.

    Hope you have some luck.

  2. For people who are still alive today it is pretty difficult to find details.  Even if you paid for access to sites like Ancestry.co.uk, the most recent census is 1901 and the 1911 won't be made public until 2011.

I'd advise joining your local library, you can use their free full access to Ancestry.com Library Edition and search for anything that might be available.  Other than that, phone books can be searched on the BT website, see link below.

  3. As long as they haven't opted out of having their details in the public domain, you could try 192.com for free index information. If you want the actual address, it costs £5 for 5 credits, but the more you buy, the cheaper it gets.

The more information you know, a middle initial, a town or county, that will be confirmed if a hit is found in the index. I found a long-lost friend on there the other day.

  4. Have you looked through the telephone books in your local library?

Perhaps if you went back to where you were last with this person or contacted other people who knew you both you might get clues.  Older people can be wonderful stores of memory.  Apart from the good suggestion of the S.A. you could write to local newspapers or particular churches.  Maybe the Red Cross could help.

  5. You can't use BT because BT is BRITISH Telecommunications...long, vigourous, tedious searching eventually leads to something.

  6. I'm not going to be much help but I did find my life-long friend after a 30 + year absence.  From what I remember doing (and I am neurologically disabled which affects memory) I went to a certain site - maybe it was Ancestry.com (which will give you 2 weeks free I think and then you can cancel after you find the person).  You get information and can narrow it down if you know their proper name and where they live.  I used her husband's name and then somehow I found her daughter and then her.  It took a while but it was interesting and different.  I'd try Ancestry.com first and you can use their site without logging in until they kick you off.  Anyway, best of luck in your search and I hope this little bit helped.

  7. what about the telephone book
