  1. You could try a local Family History Society, they sometimes have records on line or they might have a search service for which they may charge a small fee. check on the following site for suitable societies.

    http://www.genuki.org.uk/Societies/Engla...

It often pays to join a society in the area of your research.

Note :- The National Burial Index is not a complete record and the areas you are interested in may not be recorded yet, or may be recorded but are not included in the Index.

Many societies have also recorded monumental inscriptions from churchyards and cemeteries in their areas, not just the names. Crematoria are relatively modern and are not likely to

have records for the period you will probably be looking at.

  2. Have a look at the links posted below, they are all related to cemeteries and crematoria in Exeter and Barnstaple,

    North Devon Crematorium

If you have any problem finding what you are searching for just edit your question and include the information that you are having difficulty finding.

  3. You can purchase the National Burial Index CD Rom which is very useful. I believe you can search by name or cemetery.

  4. The Devon Family History Society is very active with members from all over the World.

I'm a member because I too have ancestors from Bishops Nympton and Chittlehampton which are near Barnstaple, and from Crediton in South Devon.

Try googling the Society for info about what is on offer and find if you think it is worth joining.
