Finding a lost hamster?

Ok, so here's the deal. My sister was taking care of her boyfriend's hamster while he is on vacation. We already have a guinea pig in the house and she wanted to make sure that they would both be in rooms with the air conditioning on (which would be mine and hers). I didn't have enough room for the guinea pig cage, so I took the hamster.

Anyways, last night it was making a lot of noise at around 2 AM because I was still up and the lights were still on. So I put a towel on top of the cage to give it some darkness, but it climbed up into its tower thing and started chewing on the towel. I thought it was cute so I opened the top to watch it chew on the towel, thinking that it had nowhere to go. When I closed the top I guess I didn't close it tight enough, because the hamster was missing when I woke up.

It may have even left my room or be hiding somewhere. Heck, it might be dead (let's hope not). I put food out in the middle of my bedroom floor to see if it comes out for it, but is there anything else I can do? I feel bad, she told her boyfriend and he is miserable. I feel terrible.

  1. Check under your washer/dryer if you have one, when my hamster would go missing when I was kid, we always from them under there.  Hope you find the little guy, best of luck

  2. hamsters r nocturnal, so theyre active at night. it'll be easy to find at night. look for hamster droppings, ( p**p) and see where they lead. put some food out to lure the hamster out. u can get a box and prop a ramp against it. put food leading toward the box. put food at the bottom of the box. make sure it cant get out. it could be there the next morning.

    good luck!

  3. I would wiat until tonight..since hamsters are nocturnal. Listen so see if you here it munching/running around.  If he has not gone to hamster heaven you are going to start finding chewed up papers or/and hamster Poo.

  4. hamsters can squeeze into small spaces

once my hamster escaped from in the basement and went upstairs and hid under my stove!!!!!!

So keep a look out in unexpected places.

    Hope this helped =)

  5. wit 2night make sure it is quiet and dark and the hamster will probably come out mine  did hope its works

  6. hamsters can be very difficult to find because they can climb and go up and down stairs and get into small spaces that i found most effective was just searching the entire house and moving all the furniture and when you find it grab it, even if you get bitten, and put it in the cage

  7. Check under couch cushions and in closet corners.

They like those places for some reason!

  8. I lost a hamster one time.  I put food around in all of the rooms of the house (even the hall too).  Every 30 minutes or so check all the food and see if any is missing.  When mine was lost I was sitting on the floor playing nintendo and he came walking by.  Good luck and make sure you don't have any mouse traps set out!

  9. You should try leaving treats in the cage and put the cage on the floor near where it was. Keep your eye on it and hopefully it will get scared and come back to it's cage. Also, try looking around a lot under beds and chairs with a flashlight.

  10. put peanut butter on a couple spoons throughout the house. if it's alive, it will be hungry and come back to eat it.

  11. You should put his cage on the floor with some food and some of his favorite treats. Put the cage on the its side if you have to, just make sure he can climb in on his own. Close any doors to rooms you don't think he could be in. The hamster is more likely to go somewhere he knows and thinks is safe like his cage. When he gets into the cage, close it. Do not try to chase him and grab him, you will only lose him again.

If you have no luck with that. You could look into buying some humane traps.

  12. Well, if it did not happen a long time ago, he might still be alive, put food all around the house and toys too, try not to make to much loud noise and have a bunch of people split up all arund the house at night(they only really make noise at night) and good luck. If worse comes to worse, buy an identical hamster and say you found it

  13. They like to be under dark warm places.  My cat found my hamster under the frig.  Look under everthing.

  14. Hello....

Hamsters are great escape artists. when ours escaped in our utility room it was 6 days before we found it again, but they can survive for a  long time out of their cage!! so don't worry.

To catch it put a bucket in the room with a folded towel in the bottom of it ( but only in the bottom- not up the side otherwise it will be able to climb out again!!) then put some food in, try fruit (NOT CITRUS) apple or a cherry or even a cracker or some sunflower seeds so that it can smell the food. Then make some steps or a ramp up to the bucket with some bricks, books or a plank of wood etc.

At night the hamster will smell the food and climb up to the bucket, fall in and not be able to get out, until you find him in the morning!!

It may take a few nights before the little devil comes out and listen very carefully at night for it.

    Good Luck!! :)

  15. Shut all the doors in the house and first just look in every possible crevice and corner the hamster could be.. If you don't find it all you can do is leave food and water out and hope it turns up one day.
