Question:

Finding a private clarinet teacher?

My private teacher recently moved away, and he left me without any suggestions for new teachers. I've tried to take lessons from a couple, but they usually prefer beginning clarinetist and I got bored with their 'assignments' really fast. As I've been playing for eight years, I've found it hard to find a clarinetist that can help me excel past my current limits. Where can I find a private teacher to help me advance? I really want to get even better! My goal is to be second, not third chair this year!

  1. Check the newspaper, Yellow pages. Put an add in your local newsletter/ newspaper. If you put one in your newsletter and they are free or you dom't mind paying say: Have been playing for 8 years.

    Happy playing!

  2. Hmmm... if you've been playing for 8 years, that would make you 17-19, right?

So odds are you'll be going to college soon... why don't you call your local college music department and ask to speak with their clarinet professor?

They may take you on as a student if you are almost college level, or they will be able to refer you as many play with orchestras outside of school and know who's giving lessons.

Either way, it will help push you harder AND prepare you for college auditions if you choose to play after high school.

Good luck, and have fun! :)

  3. - Go/ or call a music store near your area and ask for suggestions. Usually private teachers go here and give them info incase anyone is looking for a teacher.

    -Yellowpages/Newspaper

-Call a College/University near you and see if they have any suggestions. Speak to the music department. Sometimes they will let people not enrolled in their school take private lessons from a teacher there.
