Finding dimes above doorways?

When we moved into our new house we kept finding dimes sitting on top of all the door frames, we assumed they meant something and left them alone, but I'm curious if any one knows what they mean.

Oh wow... those are offerings for the SPIRITS.. it's what you do when you have a lot of small things that mysteriously go missing.  By putting a nice shiny dime over the doors or hiding them in book cases, etc, the SPIRITS will take the dime and leave your other stuff alone.

YOU are living in a HAUNTED HOUSE... I know... I've been there and done that and that is why I know about the dimes because that is what the Shaman had to do to get the spirits to leave me alone.
