Question:

Finding geneaology records in Portugal?

My family migrated through two Portuguese colonies on two continents in the past 90 years. We've managed to trace our roots to the area Lamego in the Douro, Portugal in the 1800s. I understand that the records (birth/death/marriage/ baptism ) of those born in this area are held in Lamego. Is this true? Can someone tell me were to write in Lamego for this family information?

I also understand that the records of those born in the former Portuguese colonies were transferred to Lisbon, Portugal. Does anyone know where to write for these records?

Thanks for your help!
