  1. You can request the "non-id" from the agency, state or lawyer affiliated with your adoption?

Adoptees are entitled to this information by law. Birth-families and birth-siblings are entitled some information as well. The "Non-ID" can be helpful to birth-mothers, birth-fathers and birth-siblings searching to confirm the date of birth, maternity home, hospital and other important search information.

    Something like this...

    Subject: Request for non-identifying information

    Reference:

    Adoptive (maiden) name:

    Adoptee's date of birth:

Hospital, City and County of Birth:

    Approx. date/county of finalization:

    Adoptive parents full names:

    Placement Agency/Maternity home name:

Please send the non-identifying information on my birth-parents. I am interested in their ages, states of birth, usual residences at the time of my birth, religion, education, occupation, physical descriptions and medical background of parents. I am also interested in any non-identifying information for biological grandparents, aunts, and uncles. Do I have any biological siblings and if so, what are their sexes and ages? Were my birth-parents married, and if so when and where? I would also like to know the circumstances of my relinquishment.

Please send me a Voluntary Registry packet.

    Sincerely,

    your (current) name

    address

    city, state, zip code

    telephone number

Join a Yahoo! Group for searching persons in your state of birth. These people can be very helpful. Keep reaching out everywhere! Be persistent. Know the law in your adoption state.

  2. In what state were you adopted?  The laws are different in each state as to what information is readily available to you.  Do you have any information at all at this point?

You will want to sign up with the International Soundex Reunion Registry at http://isrr.net.  However, depending on the state in which you were adopted, you may be able to get information that can help move things along faster.
