I'm almost 30 and I'm really wanting to take up painting as a hobby. I went to italy recently and all i can think about is art. I feel like this is something children feel like...is this normal?

  1. A close friend took up painting when he was 46. He really got a kick out of it, and was better than he expected (he was worried about how his pictures would turn out). Like others have said, go for it! Another friend began sculpting in his 50's. He loves it and has taken classes as well as joining a group of others who share his interests.

Do not fall for the belief that you have to have to have all the right "stuff" before you can start! Its the sense of desire and potential joy which is to be encouraged! I suspect its the "muse" you hear creative folks talk about, and you've been bitten by the bug.

Its never too late to learn the techniques. Nurture that creative spark and be patient with yourself. Yay for you! Seriously. Oh, and yes its normal (and great). What you do with it is now up to you!

  2. It sounds wonderful! It's great to fall in love with something new. Go for it. I love art too, I have no gift for it, but I will appreciate whatever YOU create!

  3. It is for you. I feel like this when I'm crocheting or sewing.  You need to satisfy your creative urges and visit

Michaels where they have everything you need to paint. Maybe take a little course on technique and who knows what could happen? You just might enjoy it so much, it could be a prolific adventure for you. Go for it and have fun!

  4. absolutely! art has that effect. that's why it's called art I guess. and that's why artists truly are amazing people of high caliber. but that shouldn't stop anyone from giving it a try.

  5. of course its normal. kids aren't the only people who can dream. you should persue your craving and paint/draw all of the time. use up all your money to first design an amazing studio that resembles you and has all the supplies you could possibly need. you should then decide what you like to draw the most. people, scenes, arcitechure, still life.... then do it. sell it. make it known that you love to draw/paint. enjoy this craving. do not let it pass. do not let it make you embarrassed.

be who you want to be.

    happy painting!
