Finding sold homes in our area to compare? Website?

Question

Is there a website to find homes that have recently sold in my area and what they sold for? I would like to compare my home which is also on the market. I know I can compare them to others on the market, but they haven't sold either, so it wouldn't give me the answers I want. Thanks!

Having your agent do this for you is the simplest, but you can also visit your country courthouse for this info as well. Depending on how their systems are set up you might need to know the addresses of the specific homes you’re inquiring about.  

Some counties put this info online, but yours may not, and will very likely need specific addresses to find this info on online.

There's plenty of options the general public have access to. This is the website I frequently use to compare housing prices. The search feature can let you check sale time periods, and is also good for mapping homes for sale.

The only place you will find such a database is in your area MLS, which keeps records of such sales for about a decade.  Guess what?  You don't have access to that portion of the MLS.  Real estate agents only make public the portion of the database which relates to homes currently offered for sale.

Of course, if you have your home listed with a real estate agency, I'd venture that the comparison you desire has already been performed.  If you are selling on your own, don't expect to get the desired information at no charge.  It costs real estate agents thousands of dollars to support their MLS.
