Question:

Finding the right laptop?

I'm torn between the Toshiba-Qosmio Laptop with Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor P7350 Rogue and VAIO® SR Series Notebook PC. My friend said Toshiba isn't a good quality brand, but this Toshiba has good reviews from Best Buy customers. Which laptop should I go with? Doesn't necessarily have to be the two above. I was also told to stay away from HP and to lean towards Sony and Dell.

Some extra info: This will be my first laptop so I want the best I can get without having to buy one several years later because this one has broken or has become outdated. I'm willing to spend $1500 max. I do a lot of emailing, internet surfing, drawing with paint because that's all I know how to use (i'll hopefully learn how to use photoshop), listen/download music, watch DVDs, and store lots of pictures. I travel between the US & Australia so a webcam is necessary to keep in touch with family. I also like to multi-task...listening to music while surfing the net and chatting on yahoo messenger. Please help. I know nothing about computers. Thanks!

  1. OK!

You  note down any brand say HP, Sony Dell, Toshiba, Mac, etc all are good n best in higher end products. That means if you go for good one then invest good. Yes! any above mentioned branded laptop with webcam, bluetooth is good n best in service if you spend &900 or more.

Check the warranty. good configuration (Core 2 Duo, 1 GB Ram or Higher, DVD Writer, etc). Blindly go for Toshiba/Sony/Dell/HP. These are the kings of the market but choose higher end products ONLY.

    Good Luck!

  2. get a mac, you'll be much happier

  3. The Toshiba got a much better graphics card, which is important in the future. The graphics card in the Sony laptop is useless for games like Call of Duty. I would personally go with the Toshiba because it got a much better graphics card and got a bigger screen.

Since the graphics card is integrated in the Sony laptop it will borrow memory from the System Memory, which will make the laptop run slower.

So, basicly it means that the Toshiba will have more memory to run on.

The Sony laptop has a little bit faster processor, which doesn't matter.

But, it also got more storage (320GB)

200GB is enough for me, more than enough, because I got a 250GB hard drive on the laptop I'm using right now, and it's more than enough.

I would pick the Toshiba, because it's important with a good graphics card if you're gonna run some programs in the future.

It's up to you really. The Sony got bigger storage and a bit faster processor. The Toshiba is a better allrounder and can do some things the Sony can't and more.

If 200GB storage is enough, Toshiba. If you need more Sony, but then you'll loose the good graphics card.

PS: Toshiba is a widely knows quality brand, and is seen as one of the best in the world. Your mate doesn't know what he's talking about.

  4. Well no matter how good a laptop is, it will be out dated in 5-6 years, which is really good. From what you said travel a lot and like to multitask. from this point you stated i would go with the sony vaio even though it might have less RAM it makes it back for being more light weight, more hardrive, and more portable.

Bottom Line for you i would choose the Sony Vaio P8600 because of travel and storage advantages
