What would be the volume, in mL, of 8.66 g of ethanol if the density of ethanol is 0.789 g/mL?

density = mass/volume

.789 = 8.66/V

I need V, i feel embarassed not to know where to go from there.

  1. cross multiply the V and divide by the density, or you could basically just rearrange your density = mass/vol formula into

    vol = mass/density (units become ml = g / (g/ml) and the gs cancel, leaving you with ml = ml, a way to check whether rearrangement was correct)

    so basically, you end up with v = 8.66g / (.789g/ml) = 11.0 ml
