Finding x help please???

10+2x=7x-9

10 = 5x - 9

10 + 9 = 5x



5x = 19

x = 19/5 = 3.8

First you should understand fully what is going on.  When you cross the = sign + becomes - and - becomes +.

So bring the X's to the left side getting +2x-7x and the numbers to the right getting -9-10.

So +2x-7x is -5x and -9-10 is -19 so you now have -5x=-19.

Now you can do a nifty trick to change the signs all the way across.

5x=19.  Divide both sides by five to get x.

x=19/5  = 3.8
