Fine coffee houses?

At our town's new coffee house the guy grinds your coffee beans when you order and brews the cup of coffee while you wait. He does EVERY order that way. It's delicious. Is this common in coffee houses or is he just insanely good? Also, I get Peruvian. What's another really good one I can try?

  1. Well, it's common in GOOD coffee houses.

Many specialty coffee shops (they're usually local, as opposed to chains) really take pride in serving their coffees. You can usually judge this about a particular coffee house or a particular barista by the following:

Do they know where their coffee is from?

Do they grind beans only for that particular drink?

Do they pour and scald only enough milk for that particular drink?

Do they warm the cups before pouring hot coffee into them?

All of those are indications that you've found a really great coffee house. If you find one, give them a steady business, and maybe find a couple of preferred baristas. Because these places are local (usually), making friends can earn you advice about what beans to buy (what kinds are good when, etc.) and occasionally free java.

  2. You must be ecstatic!  At last,  PK gets a decent cup o' stuff.

Try Italian coffee.  It's very dark and rich and never bitter.  I never noticed if they grind with each cup in the coffee houses but if you come to MY house you will get fresh ground every morning.

    It do make a difference.

  3. Wow!  You're lucky!  Here in Utah we have maybe 3 or 4 Starbucks coffee houses in the entire state and just a few individually run ones.  You REALLY have to look them up, cuz these mormons don't drink coffee or hot drinks if they really go by the book.  All my neighbors go by the book and getting used coffee grounds for the garden is a real challenge.  I don't drink coffee, not for religious purpose mind you, and I might take it up just to get some good grounds to use in the garden.

Oh, and The Cat thinks your coffee guy is insanely good.  His human usually gets a Chai Tea Latte, either hot in the winter or iced in the summer.  ya, it finally got HOT here in Utah...

  4. most of the local coffee places here in cleveland grind the beans daily but not for each individual customer.. so your guy is insanely good..

try sumatran coffee...its a nice medium roast.. its my favorite

  5. Try the Tasmanian Devil flavor or the Turkish Delight Mocha Navajo Indian flavor.
